Announcing a pregnancy involves choosing the right timing and a creative reveal style. Many people share the news after the first trimester, use pets or siblings in photos, or post simple updates on social media.
Timing Your Announcement
This is a highly personal decision. When Neal and I got pregnant the first time, we were so excited. I was completely naive to the reality that I could miscarry. Right away, I had made onesies and announced to the family very soon after I had told Neal. Then, all the miscarriages happened. I felt embarrassed to be excited so quickly and announce a baby to our families just to lose it. I never wanted to feel that way again. After we went on to have so many more miscarriages, I was extremely hesitant to tell anyone outside of my husband and very close friends when we were pregnant with Mila, even though I was far enough along that the probability of losing her was highly unlikely. I waited until the point that I was showing so much that I couldn’t hide it anymore. I was half way through my pregnancy, But when I finally was comfortable enough to share the news, it was magical.
Right Away: Telling close family &/or friends for support.
12 to 14 weeks: Waiting until the end of the first trimester for medical reassurance.
Later milestone: Waiting for anatomy scan or test results.
Creative Reveal Ideas
Shoe lineup: Lining up adult shoes with a tiny pair of baby shoes next to them.
Pet helper: Putting a sign or bandanna on a dog or cat that says guard duty begins on the due date.
Big sibling: Taking a photo of an older child holding a sign or an ultrasound picture.
Letter board: Writing a short due-date message on a felt letter board.

Our Announcement
Because we waited so long, we revealed both the gender and that we were pregnant at once. We did not do a gender reveal. Because of all we went through, we wanted to keep things more intimate and just for us.
When we were ready, I made a onesie that said “Baby Lwin Coming March 2025”, I bought Mom and Dad hats and cute little white booties with pink bows (to reveal it was a girl). I posted a still photo of those items and we made a B&W reel. Nea’s back was facing the camera and I was standing facing him. He put his DAD hat on backward and then I draped the onesie over one shoulder and the booties over the other. Then, with my MOM hat, I reached up and kissed his cheek with the song A Thousand Years playing in the background. We announced on Thanksgiving Eve with the caption: So much to be thankful for this year. 💗
This was very emotional for me. I had been holding onto this secret for a long time, worried something would go wrong and terrified to announce a baby that would never come. Once I did announce though, I felt more confident. The pregnancy finally felt real. I was less scared about losing her and more excited for her arrival. Posting that announcement took me from dreading to empowered and excited and the world was celebrating alongside me.
