Wine & Paint Girls Night In

I love Wine & Paint nights out, BUT paint nights in are even better. The paint part costs less, so you can spend more on the wine ;-), you get to stay longer, wear what you want and involve food!

Who doesn’t love that?! You can also go beyond the canvas and paint other things. My ladies and I have had so much fun painting giant porch signs and wooden door signs in the past, too.

You could even make it a house painting party-why not take it to the walls? This one hasn’t made it off my bucket list yet, but I have lots of empty walls that are just dying to be painted. So, when it does happen, I’ll write a post about it to let you know if it was worth it and how to host your own.

Planning Your Paint Night

Hosting a girls’ paint night in is all about setting a relaxing vibe. Protect your dining table with a Disposable Tablecloth and set up stations with Mini Easels, canvases, brushes, water cups, paper towels and acrylic paints. Tell the girls to dress comfy and serve charcuterie and wine to complete the sip-and-paint theme.

Gather Your Art Supplies You don’t need professional-grade materials. You can opt to buy an all-in-one paint night kit (like the ones pictured below from the DIY Art Club) to keep things simple. I love these. The mini ones are quick enough that you can complete them in one sitting with your girlfriends and they all share the same theme that can tie together your whole evening. And since they are a part of a set, the price per person is very reasonable. I like being creative and I love to paint, but sometimes I enjoy being able to just decompress and mindlessly paint by numbers while gabbing with my friends and not have to think about what I want to paint or how to paint it. If this is an impromptu paint night and you don’t have time to wait for a delivery from an online paint site, you can also pick up a kit from Michaels.

If you are piecing it together yourself, you will need:

- Canvases: 8×10 or 11×14 sizes are perfect for a night in.
- Easels: These are optional, but add a nice touch and can be bought for as little as $2 a piece on Amazon.
- Brushes: A set of 3 to 4 is ideal. Include a large brush for backgrounds, a smaller flat brush, and a thin round brush for details.
- Paint: Acrylic paint works best. Make sure to have plenty of white on hand as it gets used quickly for blending and mixing.
- Palettes: Disposable paper plates work perfectly for mixing colors too.
- Water cups and paper towels: For rinsing and drying brushes

2. Set Up the Painting Stations

Arrange your dining table or kitchen island so that everyone has enough elbow room. Cover the surfaces with a protective layer and set up your easels. If you want to make the night feel a bit more elevated, you can place a few Floral arrangements, fancy stem wear and place settings out for your guests.

3. Choose a Painting Guide

Use paint-by-number canvases. (this is my favorite)
Hire an instructor (this can be expensive though)
Put on a guided painting video on a TV or laptop for the table to see.
Pre-sketch the outlines onto the canvases beforehand
Paint the guest of honor (i.e. if it’s for a birthday party, bridal shower, baby shower, etc. have everyone paint them. Seeing the different finished style everyone comes up with is a guaranteed laugh)
Draw a name-everyone can secretly paint someone different at the party based on the name they drew. At the end, see who can guess who is who.

4. Plan the Sips and Bites

Keep the food light and easy to eat while painting. A grazing board with cheese, crackers, fruits, and light finger foods is perfect. For drinks, chill a few bottles of wine, or prepare a signature cocktail or sparkling water garnished with edible flowers.
