Galentines: The Exes Cocktail Edition

Discovering a friend’s hidden truth can deepen a bond, revealing that true acceptance requires no explanation and waits patiently for the right moment to be shared.
This was my absolute FAVORITE girls night in! Getting to share and laugh at the terrible stories of our awful exes (because, now we can LOL about it) was the best.
This night reminded us just how far we’ve come and how lucky we are to have amazing women in our corner. From our hardest days to our current chaotic ‘situation-ships,’ we love each other completely & judgment-free. Having a circle that truly sees you and stands by you through every single chapter is the greatest gift.
Fun drinks and silly, sometimes horrible, stories allowed us to open up to each other in a way we never had before.
Plot twist: I rename this post from ‘The Ex-Boyfriend’ to ‘The Exes Edition’. That night, we found out the mystery ex our friend moved from Chicago to Maryland for was actually a girlfriend, not a guy. She wasn’t ready to share that chapter of her life until that night. We would have loved and accepted her just the same no matter what, but it was so beautiful that she finally felt safe enough to share her full story with us.

The Gas Lighter
The Recipe: Strawberry Sparkler Illusion
Ingredients
-
- 3 Fresh Strawberries
- 1.5 oz Vodka
- 0.75 oz Fresh Lime Juice
- 0.5 oz Strawberry Syrup
- 2 oz Prosecco (to top)
- 0.5 oz 151-Proof Rum (the hidden float)
- 1 Cocktail Sparkler
Step-by-Step Instructions
-
- Muddle: Crush the strawberries and strawberry syrup in the bottom of a cocktail shaker.
- Shake: Add the vodka, lime juice, and ice. Shake until completely chilled.
- Strain: Double-strain into a tall Collins glass or a large coupe over fresh ice.
- Top: Pour the prosecco over the top, leaving a tiny bit of room at the rim.
- Float: Gently layer the high-proof rum on the very top of the drink using the back of a spoon.
- Garnish: Secure a cocktail sparkler into a strawberry on the rim, light it, and serve immediately.
MY Story: Every gut instinct told me he was cheating. He spent a month calling me crazy—even after the phone record proved it, the hotel charge on the credit card statement showed up and his coworker sent me an anonymous message on FB confirmed he was sleeping with the hostess at his work. I caught him red-handed. We broke up and he STILL denied it. Even now while she posts pictures of them captioned “with my love,” and she’s changed their status to dating-he swears they are “just friends.” What a guy.
Ghosted
The Recipe: The Vanishing White Cloud
-
- 1.5 oz Vanilla Vodka
- 1.0 oz White Crème de Cacao
- 1.0 oz Half-and-Half (or Heavy Cream for a denser cloud)
- 0.5 oz White Chocolate Syrup
- 1 handful White Cotton Candy (for the glass garnish)
- Optional: A pinch of edible white glitter
-
- Prep the glass: Place a fluffy cloud of white cotton candy directly inside a chilled martini or coupe glass.
- Shake: Combine the vanilla vodka, white crème de cacao, half-and-half, and white chocolate syrup in a shaker filled with ice. Add a pinch of edible white glitter if you want a deceptive shimmer.
- Chill: Shake vigorously for 15 seconds until the shaker is frosty and the liquid inside is perfectly blended and opaque.
- The Ghosting Act: Serve the drink by pouring the milky-white mixture directly over the cotton candy cloud. The sugar will instantly dissolve into nothingness, leaving behind a perfectly smooth, velvety sweet cocktail.
Her Story: One day they were sharing everything, and the next, she was staring at a blank screen. He ghosted her just two days before a trip to Mexico—a completely non-refundable vacation that SHE had already paid for in full. Cheers to the ultimate free-loader; this drink arrives sweet and full of tropical promise, but quickly evaporates into a cold, hollow glass, leaving her with the bill and a much better solo itinerary.
The Missing
A hauntingly empty seeming glass. This cocktail embraces the heavy, quiet space left behind when someone simply drops out of your life without a word. Pale, stark, and minimalist, leaving behind nothing but a cool, empty glass and the lingering, sweet memory of what used to be there.
The Recipe: Simple Margarita
-
- 2 oz Blanco (silver) tequila
- 1 oz Orange liqueur (e.g., Cointreau, Grand Marnier, or triple sec)
- 3/4 oz Freshly squeezed lime juice (about 1 fresh lime)
- 1/2 oz Agave nectar or simple syrup (optional, to taste)
- Ice
- Cocktail shaker
-
- Combine Ingredients: Add the tequila, orange liqueur, fresh lime juice, and agave (if using) to your cocktail shaker.
- Shake: Fill the shaker with a handful of ice and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker is frosty and chilled.
- Serve: *At the table after ‘serving’ the missing cocktails in EMPTY glasses. Strain the margarita into your prepared, ice-filled glass. Garnish with a lime wheel or wedge.
Her Story: She thought everything was perfect until she came home to find the apartment completely empty and her boyfriend gone. After hours of frantic calling turned into pure panic, she actually called the police! Only for the cops to find him cheating on her at the girl’s house down the street. Bye-bye missing person, hello local cheater.
Dead to Me
The Recipe: The Blackout Bleed
-
- 1.5 oz Vanilla Vodka
- 1.0 oz White Crème de Cacao
- 1.5 oz Half-and-Half (or Heavy Cream for a dense, opaque white look)
- 0.5 oz White Chocolate Syrup
- 1 Dessert Pipette (filled with 0.5 oz clear simple syrup mixed with 1/4 tsp Activated Charcoal Powder)
Step-by-Step Instructions
-
- Prep the Pipette: Mix 0.5 oz of simple syrup with 1/4 teaspoon of black activated charcoal powder until it is pitch black. Draw the black liquid up into your dessert pipette and set it aside.
- Shake the Base: Combine the vanilla vodka, white crème de cacao, half-and-half, and white chocolate syrup in a shaker with ice.
- Chill: Shake vigorously for 15 seconds until the shaker is frosty and the liquid is frothy and purely opaque white.
- Strain: Strain the creamy white liquid into a chilled martini or coupe glass.
- Serve & Trigger: Rest the filled pipette across the rim of the glass. To serve, squeeze the pipette directly into the center of the white cocktail to watch the black charcoal ink aggressively bleed through and black out the drink.
Her Story: She packed up your entire life and moved to a whole new state for them—leaving behind her family, friends, and her job. To find out just one month in, that they had been cheating on her the ENTIRE TIME. They didn’t just break her trust; they became completely nonexistent. This cocktail executes a clean break, transforming a deceptively innocent white cloud into a pitch-black void of absolute finality. Lucky for us, she decided to stay in Maryland anyway. Their loss, our gain.
The Walking Red Flag
The Recipe: The Scarlet Flame
-
- 2.0 oz Jalapeño or Habanero-infused Blanco Tequila
- 1.0 oz Fresh Blood Orange Juice (or tart pomegranate juice)
- 0.75 oz Fresh Lime Juice
- 0.75 oz Agave Nectar
- A dash of Grenadine (for that deep, bleeding red color)
- Garnish: Tajín (chili-lime salt) for the rim and a fresh red chili pepper slice floating on top and a small red flag toothpick
-
- Rim the Glass: Run a lime wedge around the rim of a rocks glass and press it into a small plate of Tajín salt. Fill the glass with fresh ice.
- Muddle: Drop the fresh raspberries into the bottom of a cocktail shaker and muddle them gently to release their deep red juices.
- Shake: Add the spicy infused tequila, blood orange juice, lime juice, agave nectar, and a handful of ice to the shaker.
- Chill: Shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the shaker is frosted over.
- Strain: Double-strain the vibrant red liquid into your prepared rocks glass over the fresh ice to catch any raspberry seeds.
- Garnish: Float a thin slice of fresh red chili on top as a final visual warning sign.
Her Story: She saw how he treated other girls, but she was smitten and convinced herself she would be different. She was wrong. She found his Mustang parked outside another girl’s house. Livid and ready to slash his tires, she called me, her ride-or-die. OFC I am down to do whatever she needs me to, but I did remind her that we’re both teachers and he wasn’t worth an arrest or losing our jobs. So we went back to her place instead. Burned the things he left there, and watched his memory turn to ash as we had a drink. He sucked. She is way better off.
Other Ex Themed Cocktail Ideas
- The Love Bomber: An overwhelmingly sweet initial taste. Shake muddled strawberries, cotton candy syrup, and white rum with ice. Rim the glass with popping candy to mimic the intense, sparkling rush that burns out too fast.
- The Bitter Closure: A sharp, unapologetic digestif. Combine equal parts Campari, cold-brew coffee liqueur, and dark rum. Shake vigorously and strain into a coupe glass. It leaves a heavy, lingering bitterness that stays with you.
- The “We Can Be Friends”: A confusing, contradictory flavor profile. Blend sweet peach nectar with fiery habanero-infused tequila and a splash of lime. It keeps you off balance, alternating between sweet warmth and a sharp sting.
