Fig and Thyme Gin Fizz

Blending earthy, jammy fruit with aromatic herbs, this Gin Fizz balances sweet, savory, and botanical notes into a refreshing, effervescent cocktail.
Prep Time 5 minutes
Servings: 1
Course: Cocktail, Drinks, Gin

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces Gin
  • 3 whole Fresh ripe figs plus extra slices for garnish
  • 5 sprigs Fresh thyme plus an extra sprig for garnish
  • 1 ounce Simple syrup
  • 1/2 ounce Freshly squeezed lime juice about half a lime
  • 3 ounces Tonic water or club soda to top
  • Ice cubes

Equipment

  • Muddler
  • Fine-Mesh Strainer
  • Cocktail Shaker

Method

  1. Muddle the Base: Add the fresh figs, thyme sprigs, simple syrup, and lime juice to the bottom of a cocktail shaker.
  2. Use a muddler to firmly crush the figs and bruise the thyme to release their juices and aromatic oils.
  3. Shake with Gin: Pour the gin into the shaker and add a generous handful of ice. Close the shaker and shake vigorously for 10 to 15 seconds until the outside feels ice-cold.
  4. Strain the Drink: Fill a serving glass (such as a coupe or highball glass) with fresh ice. Pour the liquid through a fine-mesh strainer into the glass to catch any loose thyme leaves, pulp, or small fig seeds
  5. Top with Fizz: Top the glass with tonic water or club soda, and give it a quick, gentle stir to combine the layers.
  6. Garnish: Clap a fresh sprig of thyme in your palms to activate its oils, drop it into the glass, and slide a slice of fresh fig onto the rim.

Notes

Variations:
  • The Infused Syrup Method: If you want a perfectly smooth drink without any fruit pulp clogging your strainer, simmer 4 quartered figs and 4 thyme sprigs directly into your water-and-sugar mixture while making homemade simple syrup. Let it cool, strain out the solids, and use an ounce of that syrup instead of muddling fresh fruit.
  • Make it Festive: Swap the club soda or tonic water for a pour of sparkling wine, Prosecco, or sparkling rosé to give the drink a more luxurious, celebratory finish.
